Christian journalists honour Obaseki with Most Outstanding Governor Award

Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has been honored as the Most Outstanding Governor of The Year 2019 by the Nigerian Association of Christian Journalists, Edo State Chapter.

Presenting the award to the governor during his reelection campaign in Eyaen Wards 5 and 6, in Uhunmwode Local Government Area, Secretary General of the association, Dr. Charles Okhai, noted that the honour was on the back of the governor’s sterling performance across all sectors of the state.

The Cattle Dealers Association in Edo State also declared their total support for the reelection of the governor, promising to mobilise thousands of voters to ensure Obaseki’s victory in the September 19, 2020 election.

According to the Secretary General of the Nigerian Association of Christian Journalists, “We carried out a research and discovered that pensioners do not queue anymore to get their entitlements; we discovered that civil servants get their salaries as and when due.

“And we believe that the governor has given power back to the people and we are here to support the good things going on in Edo State because we are committed to the progress of Nigeria; If Edo is not moving forward Nigeria cannot move forward. Today, we are honoring our governor with the Most Outstanding Governor of The Year Award.”

The cattle dealers through their Chairman, Alhaji Saadu Ahmed, said: “Since we have been doing business here in Edo, the governor has not hurt anybody. During the outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we saw how other states handled the pandemic, thereby hurting people.

“But our governor never did that in Edo; we go about our businesses peacefully, that is why we are going to support our governor. We are going to vote him as our governor in the next four years and by the grace of God, he will be victorious.”

On his part, Obaseki noted: “After twenty years of democracy in Nigeria, some people still want us to be doing things the old way where one man determines who wins an election and occupies an office.

“Democracy means government of the people, not government of one man or a few people. The Edo election will determine if we are ready to bury godfatherism in Edo and Nigeria at large.

“Four years ago, he (Oshiomhole) told us that this man was not fit to be the governor of the state and he is here again telling Edo people that the same man is who the people should vote for as their governor; he looks at us as fools, that anything he tells us to do we will do.

“This election is to tell them that we are not fools. Before we came to power, our women could not trade without being harassed by touts who claim to be lions and tigers. Do you want such people back to power?”
