Abuja:The Chartered Institute of Project Managements of Nigeria (CIPMN) has emphasized the necessity of professionalising project management across various sectors as a strategic approach to unlocking Nigeria’s economic potential.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mr. Henry Mbadiwe, the Registrar General and Chief Executive Officer of CIPMN, highlighted this at the 2026 National Industrial Manpower Summit in Abuja. He articulated that professionalising project management is essential for strengthening human capital and accelerating national development.
Mbadiwe stated that the summit, themed ‘Unlocking Nigeria’s Human Capital for Industrial Transformation Building Skills, Driving Innovation and Creating Prosperity,’ aims to fortify the profession. He emphasized that sustainable national development and industrial growth largely hinge on effective project delivery, skilled manpower, and adherence to professional standards.
He further explained that project management extends beyond administrative duties, serving as a critical base for infrastructure development, industrial expansion, and the successful execution of innovative ideas. Achieving meaningful industrial transformation and sustainable prosperity, he noted, requires deliberate investment in professional competence, workforce development, and adherence to recognized standards across all economic sectors.
Mbadiwe stressed that anchoring project delivery on standardized practices, transparency, and accountability would eliminate resource wastage, reduce project abandonment, and maximize the return on human capital investment. He described CIPMN as a federal government institute responsible for licensing, certification, regulation, supervision, training, and professional standardisation.
He elaborated that the institute’s goal is to promote competence, uphold ethical conduct, and equip practitioners with the necessary knowledge and skills to manage projects effectively. Reaffirming CIPMN’s commitment to national development, Mbadiwe mentioned that the institute is guided by its vision to professionalise project management for a more sustainable future for the nation.
CIPMN plans to continue collaborating with government agencies, private-sector organizations, and educational institutions to promote effective project management practices and support sustainable development nationwide. He called on practising project managers, corporate organizations, and public-sector institutions to align their operations with CIPMN’s statutory requirements and professional guidelines.
Mbadiwe concluded by emphasizing that effective project management is crucial to ensuring that national development investments yield enduring economic and social benefits. He highlighted that institutional collaboration, professional competence, and accountability are essential to reducing project failures, improving resource utilization, and translating development investments into tangible results for Nigerian citizens.
