Abuja: The Corporate Kickers Sports Club (CKSC) has launched an initiative to acquire its own sporting arena, especially for football, to boost fun and engagement among members. The event, which attracted several guests in Abuja, also served as a medium to celebrate the group’s 20th anniversary, hold an award ceremony, and host the end-of-year party.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, and Chairman, Board of Trustees of the club, said the club is a group of friends. He explained that they come together to play football and other games for the past 20 years as a thing of fun for members. Belgore added that for the past two decades, the group had always rented pitches to play football at different venues, emphasizing that members expressed themselves through football, which they play for fun.
“We are here today to launch an operation for our own football field. Over the past 20 years, we’ve always rented, and for quite some time, we played at different venues,” Belgore stated. He highlighted the necessity of establishing their own field to ensure the club’s growth into the future they desire. He expressed the vision of leaving a future legacy for their children, who are automatically born as members of the club.
Belgore also urged Nigerian government sports administrators to focus on the area of sports, particularly football, noting the country’s abundance of talented individuals who excel in sports. He called on Nigerians to celebrate Christmas moderately and advised against drinking and driving, especially during travels.
Dr. Chike Onuigbo, Captain of CKSC, mentioned that the event serves to foster brotherhood and bond among members, with plans to transform the club into a football academy in the future. He indicated that arrangements are underway for members to introduce their children into the system, ensuring that CKSC will continue across generations.
Mr. Obinna Nwadoka, the 7th Captain of the club, remarked on the therapeutic and fitness benefits of sporting activities, emphasizing the need for everyone to embrace them. He also mentioned the club’s aspirations to establish a sporting arena comparable to the IBB Golf Club in Abuja.
Mr. Olaleye Titiloye, a member of the club, described it as a group of gentlemen who have been together for two decades. Mrs. Beatrice Okpara, a wife of a member and an award recipient, expressed gratitude for being recognized by the club and promised her ongoing support.
The event’s highlight included financial pledges from club members and associates to support the proposed sporting arena.
