Commissioner commends Corps member for personal projects accomplished at place of primary assignment

Awka-Commissioner for Social Welfare Children and Women Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue has urged corps members to always seek to make an impact in other people’s lives.

Lady Mezue said this during an inauguration ceremony of some projects by Mr Christopher Shiyan, a 2019 batch ‘C’ Stream 1 National Youth Service Corps member at the `Gods Care School for Persons with Disability, Amaenyi’, Awka South Local Government Area (LGA).

The projects include renovation of a block of classrooms, a dormitory and three toilets as well as a new electricity power generator, a laptop computer, a projector and provision of some learning materials.

The commissioner was represented at the occasion by Mr Ernest Onyeka, a Director in the Ministry.

The commissioner made a cash donation of N50, 000 to the school saying that she was overwhelmed by the Corps member’s efforts.

NYSC Anambra State Coordinator, Mr Kehinde Aremu commended the Corps member for his selfless service to the children of the school.

He thanked the school’s management for their humanitarian services and prayed God to bless them in return.

Mr Aremu promised to attract State Government’s assistance to the school, urging other Corps members to emulate the accomplishments of Mr Shiyan.

The coordinator was represented at the event by Mrs Anwuli Molokwu, a staff member of the NYSC.

According to Shiyan, I was motivated to help because of the deplorable state of the school building.

“With the help of my colleagues I raised the money with which I renovated the classrooms, a dormitory, three toilets and fixed other equipment including a power generating set, a laptop computer, a projector and learning materials.’’

In his response, the proprietor of the school, Mr Afam Ndife thanked the Corps member for his good work, especially at the time it mattered most.

Mr Ndife also urged stakeholders present to support the school as they needed more help in terms of feeding.

Cutting of the ribbon to open the renovated classroom was performed by the Commissioner and assisted by the coordinator.
