Enugu: The Chairman of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State, Dr. Eric Odo, has officially commenced the demarcation of the boundary between the Aku and Kolo communities, effectively ending a land dispute that has persisted since 1914.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the land dispute between these two communities has spanned over a century, claiming numerous lives and properties. While inaugurating the demarcation exercise at Ogbede, Dr. Odo emphasized that resolving this long-standing issue amicably was a significant accomplishment of his administration.
Dr. Odo reiterated that the resolution was a fulfillment of his campaign promise to restore peace and unity in the communities. He stated that the peace achieved would permanently end the crisis, which had caused psychological and economic hardships to the residents.
Dr. Odo expressed gratitude to Gov. Peter Mbah and his Deputy Chief Ifeanyi Ossai for creating an environment conducive to peace between the two communities. NAN reports that traditional rulers, president-generals, and councillors from both communities have pledged their commitment to maintaining lasting peace and mutual coexistence.
Community leaders and residents from both Aku and Ikolo communities have lauded Dr. Odo’s intervention, viewing it as a historic step that would ensure the safety of lives and property in the region.
