Abuja: A Dutse Magistrates’ Court in Abuja has discharged a businesswoman, Hajara Jibril, who was accused of pouring hot water on her neighbour. The police had charged Jibril, residing in Gudna Village, Abuja, with causing grievous hurt. The Senior Magistrate, Mr. Ibrahim Alkali, ordered Jibril’s discharge.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the incident came to light when the complainant, David Onnkuro, reported the matter to the Deidei Divisional Police Headquarters on June 4. On June 3, Onnkuro had left to buy food items and returned to find himself locked out. Upon discovering this situation, he complained that his brother had locked him out. In response, Jibril allegedly shouted at Onnkuro to leave her side of the apartment.
The prosecution narrated that an altercation ensued between Jibril and Onnkuro, during which Jibril allegedly entered her apartment, retrieved a bowl of hot water, and poured it on Onnkuro’s face, resulting in injuries to his head and left eye. Despite the severity of the injuries, the prosecutor stated that Jibril showed no concern for her neighbour.
The charge against Jibril was based on violating Section 265 of the Penal Code Law. However, the Defence Counsel, Mr. Ebenezer Abdul, informed the court that Onnkuro had agreed to withdraw the case, to which the prosecuting counsel raised no objection.
