Awka-Anambra State House of Assembly, Special Committee on COVID-19 has commended chairmen of Orumba North and South for effective security deployment at boundaries with neighbouring Enugu State.
The committee said this after, officially touring the boundary communities within the two local government areas.
Chairman of the Committee, Mr Paschal Agbodike told journalists after the inspection that they impressed at the operations of security men in the two LGAs by effectively blocking the boundaries to curb spread of Coronavirus.
“The security men and government Taskforce are doing their jobs diligently, thereby assisting the police in ensuring that people did not come into the state to spread the virus.
“We are here to monitor compliance from the people; how far they are obeying and abiding by the rules.
“We don’t want outsiders to come into the state to infect our people with the virus; that is why we are going round to monitor our boundaries.
“I thank the chairman, Orumba South LGA, for sharing face masks to the security personnel in the area and other palliatives to help them in containing Coronavirus.
“I urge the chairmen and security operatives to continue the good work they are doing for the state and humanity,’’ Mr Agbodike said.
Mr Emeka Aforka, representing Orumba North and member of the committee, noted that they were carrying out “on-the-spot-checks’’ to ascertain the level of compliance among the people.
“We are happy that Enuguabo Ufuma-Eni Road, a major border between Orumba North and Enugu State is closed; there is no movement of vehicles and people.’’
Chairman, Orumba South LGA, Mr Raymond Onyegu expressed satisfaction at the committee and its members.
