COVID-19: Enugu government bans public gatherings, closes schools

The governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, on Tuesday, banned all planned marriage ceremonies, birthday celebrations, burial ceremonies, and unnecessary gatherings.

The governor also said all schools in the state are to be closed with immediate effect. Commercial vehicles have also been banned from carrying more than 3 passengers while buses should carry 2 passengers per seat.

Commercial tricycles popularly known as “keke” have been limited to carrying no more than 2 passengers.

Governor Ugwuanyi also directed that pubs should be shut down while Churches and Mosques should maintain social distances in all their activities.

The Governor said the measure is part of efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19.
