COVID-19: Gombe Taskforce closes Government House Clinic, SSG office

The Gombe State Taskforce on Covid-19 says it will fumigate the Office of the Secretary to the State Government and the Government House clinic, after a COVID-19 test result of a government House staff who died on Sunday returned positive.

The Chairman of the Taskforce on covid-19, Professor Idris Mohammed, said during a press briefing that the taskforce had through its Rapid Response Team, already begun line listing and contact tracing, following confirmation that the Director in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government had died of covid-19 related illness.

Professor Mohammed confirmed that the test result of the late Director was among the 3 Covid-19 positive cases the state recorded on Wednesday.

Consequently, he said all high risk areas at the Government House, especially the office of the deceased, that of the SSG and the clinic, where the deceased was admitted, would be fumigated, closed, while samples of the occupants would be collected for testing.

Professor Mohammed also said the Rapid Response Team of the Taskforce had begun tracing individuals who participated in the burial of the deceased, while his family members would ve taken through counselling, testing and isolation if found positive.

“Although we have managed to keep Gombe communities safe for well over 2 months now because of the proactive steps taken by the government … there is now a clear evidence of community transmission of the covid-19 because two of the seven deaths recorded in the state are individuals who have not travelled out of the state,” Prof. Mohammed said.

He said the Taskforce had intensified efforts to ramp up sensitisation campaign through an expanded involvement of communities in the State.
