An international agency, the African Union Development Agency- New Partnership for African Development (AUDA-NEPAD), has donated 80 pieces of mattresses to internally displaced persons in the Federal Capacity Territory.
While presenting the items to the FCT Administration in Abuja, the National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of AUDA-NEPAD, Nigeria, Princess Gloria Akobundu, said the gesture was to support the Nigerian government’s efforts towards mitigating the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are today because we received these gift items from Harmony Nigeria Limited, a company based in Abia state. They presented the items to our agency and we received them on behalf of Federal Government because they wanted to support fight against COVID-19.
“We reported to the Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), and they directed that the items should be taken to the IDPs. And the FCT Administration is in charge of IDPs so we communicated that we will be bringing the items so that you do the needful,” he stated.
While receiving the items on behalf of the FCT Administration, the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, commended the firm for bringing succour to the internally displaced persons
The Minister who was represented by the FCT Permanent Secretary, Sir Christian Ohaa, pledged the commitment of the administration through the FCT Emergency Management Agency towards ensuring that the displaced persons get the donated items.
“I am humbled to receive these gifts from the Harmony Nigeria Limited from Abia state to assist the federal government. On behalf of the less privileged especially those internally displaced persons, the FCT Administration remain grateful to the donor. We are going to handover these items to our FCT Emergency Management Agency for onward distribution to the IDPs. We thank you very sincerely”, She said.
