The Sokoto State Government has flagged off the distribution of two million face masks across twenty three local government areas.
During the flag off ceremony held at the state central market in Sokoto, the Commissioner for Health and State Chairman of the COVID-19 Taskforce Committee, Dr Ali Inname, said that wearing of face mask is necessary where there is no total lockdown in order to contain the spread of the coronaovirus.
Dr. Inname said that as the State recorded more confirmed cases of COVID-19, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control is recommending that people wear facemasks whenever they have reasons to move around.
“In light of this new evidence, CDC recommends wearing cloth or face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g. Market, grocery stores and pharmacies) especially in areas of significant community-based transmission” the Commissioner explained.
Dr. Inname said the distribution is to cover all the 23 local governments, public places, government ministries, department and agencies and private organisations in the state.
