The acting Governor of Cross River State, Effiok Cohbams, at the weekend lauded the contribution of FirstBank in the development of the game of golf in the country, particularly its yearly sponsorship of the Mary Slessor Charity Golf Tournament.

The tournament is the brain child of Mrs. Obioma Imoke, wife of the state governor, Senator Liyel Imoke.
“I must say that we had considered putting off this event but our corporate partner, FirstBank insisted that it must go ahead, because of the huge importance it plays in raising kids for the charity of our First Lady. I want to really commend them for their support and I believe Her Excellency, (Mrs. Obioma Imoke); the initiator of this charity event, is equally pleased with the support you have given to this as well”, he said.
Meanwhile, Enugu-based category one player, Jackson Offem, emerged the overall winner of the championship. Offem, who played scratch (zero handicap) at the 36 holes contest garnered 149, five over par to win the fourth edition of the charity golf event, dismissing the earlier threats from Aba-based Emmanuel Onumajuru with a five stroke margin.
“I had quite some challenge from Onumajuru but I guess I played better eventually; and I hope to return here to defend this title next year,” he said at the closing ceremony.
