The Governor of Cross River State in southern Nigeria, Senator Bassey Otu has promised to support the students loan fund initiative of the Nigerian Government.
Governor Otu made the pledge when the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr led a delegation on a courtesy visit at his temporary office in Calabar.
The Governor, represented by his deputy, Dr. Peter Odey, commended Nigerian President Bola Tinubu for a successful launch of the initiative.
Governors Otu stated, ‘we appreciate our President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for this initiative because it will enable students fund their education as is obtainable in other developed countries. As an administration, we support this gesture.
‘NELFUND is a critical platform that would provide financial support for students of Cross River State in tertiary institutions nationwide, helping them pursue their education with ease. Education is one of the priority of the Governor Bassey Otu led admin
istration.’
‘On our part, we have evolve policies to reinvigorate the education sector to better serve the people. So, with the implementation of NELFUND, we reaffirm our unwavering support for your management team in fulfilling the mandate, which is aimed at benefitting many students across the state and the nation in general,’ he said.

In an earlier remark, the NELFUND boss, Mr. Sawyerr, said that the fund was established as part of President Tinubu’s commitment to alleviating the financial challenges faced by students and enhancing their educational experience.
Sawyerr commended the Governor for implementing policies that contribute to the intellectual and social development of the country.
He also said, ‘NELFUND has commenced the disbursement process nationwide. We are here to encourage Nigerian students in Cross River State to take advantage of the Nigerian government’s initiative to ease the financial difficulties they face.’

e Governor on General Duties, Mr. Ekpenyong Akiba, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Students Affairs, Mr. Kelvin Eyam, as well as the President and Senate President of the National Association of Nigerian Students.
