Abuja: President Bola Tinubu has declared that the era of empty promises and abandoned projects in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and other parts of Nigeria has come to an end. Tinubu made this announcement in Abuja while inaugurating the newly rehabilitated Aguma Palace, Radio Nigeria, New Market Road, and other connecting roads in Gwagwalada.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the project marks the 17th inauguration by Tinubu in celebration of his second year in office. Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu assured Nigerians that under his administration, no community is too remote to receive attention, and every voice will be heard. The administration is committed to bridging the gap between promises and performance.
Tinubu emphasized that the projects in the FCT were not imposed but were chosen by the people of Gwagwalada. “This is the kind of democracy we believe in; one that listens, one that responds, and one that delivers,” he stated. The president highlighted that the infrastructure developments are not merely physical improvements but are efforts to build confidence and governance.
He further explained that the roads serve as essential pathways for various community members, including market women, school children, and traders, providing them with dignity, safety, and prosperity. Tinubu vowed that his government is rehabilitating not just roads but also trust among the people.
The president attributed the transformations in the FCT to deliberate reforms and bold policies enacted by his administration. Investments in roads, schools, hospitals, and communities are made possible by expanding the revenue base of the FCT. Tinubu acknowledged the role of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, describing him as a key figure who rejected mediocrity and contributed significantly to the projects.
Tinubu reiterated his administration’s focus on creating an environment where businesses can grow, families can thrive, and communities can prosper. He emphasized that development should be a right enjoyed by all, not a privilege for a select few.
In his remarks, Minister Wike commended the participatory approach in selecting the projects, noting that the roads were nominated by the residents themselves. The minister highlighted the importance of these roads to the Gwagwalada community, acknowledging the previously collapsed infrastructure and the hardships faced by the residents.
The FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the inaugurated projects as catalysts for economic growth, social harmony, and improved quality of life. She affirmed the administration’s dedication to inclusive governance and infrastructure renewal.
Earlier, Mr. Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, Coordinator of the FCT Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), revealed that the project was awarded in September 2024 to a local contractor. The completion and inauguration of the road reflect Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agender,’ marking significant progress in the FCT’s infrastructure plans. Zulkiflu expressed gratitude to Minister Wike for entrusting STDD with the project management.
