Abuja: The National Defence College (NDC) has urged the outgoing course 34 participants to seek moral guidance and maintain spiritual strength in the discharge of national service. The NDC commandant, Rear Adm. Abdullahi Ahmed, gave the charge during the college’s interdenominational church service for graduating participants.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ahmed, represented by the Deputy Commandant, Maj.-Gen. Ken Chigbu, emphasized the necessity of spiritual strength, support, and moral guidance amidst professional and intellectual pursuits. He highlighted that faith reminds humanity of the importance of humility, compassion, service, and dependence on God, which are crucial attributes for leaders to discharge their duties fairly and efficiently.
Ahmed further stated, “As leaders, we must never become so confident in our abilities that we forget the need to seek and utilize divine wisdom and spiritual guidance. May God grant us the wisdom, courage, and selflessness required to make decisions that will promote peace and unity, attain justice and security, and achieve prosperity for all.”
He also encouraged the participants to remain committed to excellence as the college continues to play a pivotal role in developing strategic leaders for Nigeria, Africa, and beyond. The commandant expressed gratitude for reaching this milestone and expressed optimism about the future contributions of the graduates.
The journey at the college involved intellectual engagement, personal sacrifice, professional development, and shared experiences. Participants were exposed to rigorous academic activities, strategic studies, leadership development, and research exercises, broadening their understanding of national and international security issues. They also had the opportunity to interact, exchange ideas, and build relationships across professional, cultural, and national boundaries.
Earlier, the college Protestant Chaplain, Capt. James Saidu, in his sermon, urged the participants to continue abiding in the faith that had brought them thus far. He encouraged them to remain thankful to God in every situation, viewing challenges as opportunities for growth. Saidu advised them to lead by example, embodying high morals and transparency in their future roles post-graduation.
