Abuja: The Federal Government has announced the adoption of the 1Gov cloud Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS) platform from Laserfiche, in furtherance of its digitalisation efforts. The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF), Mrs. Esther Walson-Jack, made this known in Abuja. Walson-Jack stated that over the past year, the HoCSF has laid the groundwork for a unified digital infrastructure for services. The digitalisation efforts have resulted in the establishment of 59,344 official government emails. She encouraged Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to embrace the new platform.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Walson-Jack highlighted that MDAs yet to begin their ECM implementation should adopt the 1Gov cloud platform. Those already using a different enterprise content management system will continue until their planned migration in 2026. She explained that the decision to transition to the 1Gov cloud ECMS is based on four strategic, policy-driven, and operationally essential reasons for the future of Nigeria’s public service.
The 1Gov cloud ECMS is designed as a unified government-wide platform, enabling MDAs to operate on a single digital backbone, with one workflow language and one record system. This initiative aims to break down silos, harmonize standards, and facilitate seamless inter-MDA collaboration. The project aligns with a national shift towards sovereign digitalisation, safeguarding Nigeria’s data platforms and digital future. She further noted that the one government cloud delivers national interoperability and eliminates fragmentation from isolated deployments.
Earlier, Dr. Ibrahim Adeyanju, Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone (GBB), shared insights on the momentum of the government’s digitalisation drive, spurred by a presidential directive to modernize the civil service. Represented by GBB’s Executive Director of Finance, Mohammed Ibrahim, Adeyanju emphasized that the initiative marks a significant step towards achieving digitalisation goals, transitioning from traditional systems to a more efficient, innovative, and transparent approach.
According to him, GBB is committed to ensuring the system’s optimal performance, with minimal expected downtime due to a robust infrastructure. The initiative is anticipated to bring substantial benefits in the coming years, transforming civil service operations and enhancing overall governance. “Galaxy Backbone is here to work with all agencies. We have been working to make sure this deadline is met. The interagency collaboration is what we are experiencing today. We do not want to see any of this fail. The Head of Service has been generous enough to ensure that the migration extends to next year for those who are not ready,” he said.
