Awka-Parish Priest, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Awka, Rev. Fr. Anthony Akabogu has urged congregation not to expose themselves to dangers by adopting measures outlined to overcome Coronavirus pandemic.
Fr. Akabogu enjoined them to always obey government directives in curbing the spread of Covid-19 pandemic in the state, emphasising that the virus was real.
“Always adhere to COVID-19 protocols so as to contain the pandemic.’’
Fr. Akabogu said this during a Mass to commemorate the Feast of the solemnity of Corpus Christi (Body of Christ).
This feast was celebrated by Catholic faithful all over the world after the feast of the Holy Trinity.
“The greatest miracle given to mankind by Jesus Christ is `His Body and Blood’ as redemption for man. The physical presence of Jesus Christ today is the Holy Eucharist.
“When you recall your past life, the challenges you faced, the manifestation of God’s divine protection, favour and blessings upon you today (on Sunday), it calls for greater faith.
“Whenever you receive the Holy Communion, you are carrying Jesus within you.
“Solemnity of Corpus Christi is a time when Catholics engage in procession of the Blessed Sacrament, displayed in a monstrance, adoring the body and blood of Christ,’’ he noted.
The cleric enjoined the congregation to abide by the words of God and equally obey government directives COVID-19 for the good of the masses.
The feast of Corpus Christi was proposed by St. Thomas Aquinas, Doctor of the Church to Pope Urban IV, in order to create a feast focused solely on the Holy Eucharist.
