Emmanuel Emenike

Emmanuel Emenike and Ahmed Musa both based in Russia, as well as Italy-based upcoming midfield ace, Ogenyi Onazi, have arrived the Super Eagles camp as preparations gather steam for the Afcon 2013 Nations Cup, with Wednesday’s friendly against Catalonia selected the first big test.

The trio breezed into camp at lunch time Sunday and were immediately checked into their rooms, with Onazi, explaining that they could have been earlier but spent time waiting for Emenike’s luggage which did not arrive with the plane from Lisbon to Faro, but will now be expected on Monday morning flight to the Eagles camp site.

After exchanging banters with team officials led by Stephen Keshi they joined teammates in having their lunch and just as they were about rounding off, the fourth player to arrive on Sunday, Raheem Lawal, who now plays in the Turkish second division showed up.

The four players are expected to take part in training on Sunday evening, as more players continue to hit camp for the international friendly against Catalonia as part of preparations for the Nations Cup.

At the last count, nine foreign-based players have arrived the Faro, Portugal camp of the team.

Head Coach Stephen Keshi had said he expects at least 11 foreign-based players to feature in the friendly against Catalonia on Wednesday.

Similarly, Keshi has said apart from Ikechukwu Uche, who has been given January 6, to arrive camp, because of the concession his club in Spain gives to the Super Eagles, especially regarding the Catalonia friendly all other players are expected in the Faro camp of the national team by January 5.

“No, we have no discussion to let some players stay with their clubsides beyond January 5 and the rules are very clear if any player fails to make the date and without permission we will apply the rules,” he said.
