Kinshasa: The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has reported that the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo continues to be critical despite ongoing efforts to contain it. The outbreak, which was declared on May 15, has been expanding and presents a significant public health challenge.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Africa CDC shared in a post on its official X account that the outbreak has persisted in spreading despite the intervention measures taken by the government and its partners. The outbreak initially affected one province and two health zones but has now spread to six provinces and 60 health zones.
The affected area spans approximately 240,000 square kilometres, an area comparable to the size of the United Kingdom and nearly five times that of Switzerland. So far, the outbreak has resulted in 6,206 confirmed cases and 3,009 deaths, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
Africa CDC is collaborating with the World Health Organization and various partners to support the Democratic Republic of Congo’s government in enhancing response efforts to control the transmission of the virus.
