Ebonyi: The Ebonyi Government has announced an increment in the minimum wage of civil servants from N70,000 to N90,000. The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Chief Ikeuwa Omebe, made the disclosure while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the state’s Executive Council Meeting.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Omebe stated that the increment was intended to enhance workers’ welfare, with the implementation set to take effect immediately and covering all categories of the workforce. He emphasized that the decision was not politically motivated, asserting the government’s commitment to workers’ welfare.
Omebe highlighted that the government had settled the pension and gratuities of state retirees from its establishment in 1996 to the present. The verification process for retirees in local government areas had commenced, and payments would be made upon its completion.
The commissioner also mentioned that if the government could manage significant financial obligations without political motives, the additional N20,000 increment for workers would be handled similarly. He praised the governor as a leader committed to building capacity, human resources, and infrastructure.
Omebe further revealed that the Executive Council considered the implementation of an eighth-year tenure policy for directors. This policy would lead to the immediate retirement of those who have served in the same cadre for the specified period. The EXCO approved the implementation for the affected permanent secretaries and directors.
