Post: Edo 2024: FIDA Urges Women To Exercise Civil Rights

Women in Edo State have been urged to come out en mass to exercise their civil rights in the forth coming governorship election on Sept 21.

Chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA, Edo State Chapter, Mrs Orumwese Violet, gave the urge in Benin.

Orunwese said FIDA being a global organisation that promotes and protects the interests of women, girls, and children, would be behind women during the election.

She urged women to vote without fear of violence, or sell their votes, or allow their voter cards to be bought.

She cautioned political parties against enticing voters with money or food, considering the current economic situation.

Orumwese reminded them that voting was a right and a civic duty, stating that a high voter turnout would give credibility to the electoral process.

She noted that FIDA in Edo had collaborated with other organisations to ensure the well-being of women and girls during voting and FIDA had also been accredited as an election observer.

The FIDA chairwo
man prayed for the best candidate to emerge to ensure the state continued from where it stopped.

She, however, reminded the citizens that election was not war, and encouraged everyone to cast their votes and make them count.
