The executive governor of Edo state, Governor Godwin Obaseki today submitted his nomination and expression of interest form to the national Secretariat of All Progressive Congress (APC) at Abuja where he indicated his interest to contest for the 2020 gubernatorial election In Edo state.
Speaking to newsmen afterwards, he highlighted some of his developmental strides in various sectors which Includes the civil service reforms, tax reforms, social reforms, educational, health and infrastructural reforms as part of his reasons for contesting so he can crystallize and consolidate on his achievements in the last 3 Years to bring about a better developed Edo state in line with the promises of the APC to the Nigerian people.
Speaking in regards to the mode of election to be used during the primary, he said he is not afraid of either the direct or indirect mode because he is sure of winning due to his records of development in Edo state but said that there is a constitutional provision of how party primaries should be conducted and the party should adhere strictly to it because the safety of all Edo citizens is his primary concern especially during this Covid 19 Pandemic.
He Also debunked the collection of nomination form from the opposition party, PDP as false as he is a strong party man who believes in APC and its developmental agenda.
On the rift between himself and the National chairman of APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, he said he assisted Comrade Adams Oshiomhole during his campaign and served him for 8 years without collecting a dime. He said everyone gets assistance at different levels and he is grateful to him but the biggest betrayal is to betray an ideal and a cause by turning around to support a cause you fought against.
On the meeting with the National chairman of the party, Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Presidency, he said its because he wants peace to reign In the party as he Is a man of peace and will do whatever it takes within his powers to ensue the unity of the party.
He advised Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to play fair and recluse himself from being partial during the party’s primary because in the end, justice and fairness will prevail.
