Lagos: In the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI), education is deemed crucial for developing skills such as critical thinking, adaptability, and digital literacy, according to Bodex Hungbo, the Convener of Bodex Social Media Hangout (BSMH 6.0).
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Hungbo emphasized that education plays a vital role not only in skill development but also in maneuvering through the complex ethical landscape of modern technology and social media to support AI utilization. She highlighted that while AI has revolutionized learning through personalized experiences and automation of administrative tasks, an over-reliance on AI could impede essential problem-solving abilities.
Hungbo noted that AI has the potential to be a powerful catalyst for empowerment by enhancing access to education and improving online safety. She stressed that the core focus of education should be on digital literacy, lifelong learning, and human-centered skills that prioritize emotional intelligence and creativity-qualiti
es that AI cannot replicate.
She pointed out the amplified role of AI algorithms in social media, which personalize content, spread misinformation, and impact mental health. The adherence to strong ethical guidelines is crucial for fostering a healthier digital ecosystem, which includes respecting privacy, honesty, transparency, combating misinformation, and fostering inclusiveness.
Hungbo announced that arrangements have been finalized for the 6th edition of the Bodex Social Media Hangout (BSMH 6.0), a premier digital media and thought-leadership event aimed at amplifying AI education. The three-day program, themed ‘Social Media and AI Influence: Transforming Yourself, Services, and the Society,’ aims to explore the convergence of innovation, influence, and integrity in the digital age.
The event, she revealed, will take place from Nov. 21 to Nov. 23, 2025, across the University of Lagos, Akoka, and Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja. It will host policymakers, academics, creatives, legal experts, and digital stra
tegists who are shaping Africa’s communication and innovation landscape.
Hungbo mentioned that the program will include learning experiences with discussions around ethics, education, and youth empowerment in the AI era. Notable speakers include Prof. Oloruntola Sunday, Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies at UNILAG, and Dr. Akin Olaniyan, Convener of the Centre for Social Media Research, among others.
She added that the grand finale of the event will feature an awards ceremony, including the prestigious Bodex Media Awards, celebrating individuals who have leveraged social media, innovation, and influence for social good. The special day will feature Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as Keynote Speaker and Honouree, receiving the ‘Most Friendly Digital Media Governor of the Year Award’.
