Post: Ekiti Guber Polls: APC Inaugurates Screening Committees

Abuja: The All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated its Screening and Screening Appeal Committees ahead of the Ekiti State governorship election in Southern Nigeria. The Chairman of the Screening Committee, Abdulraheem Tunji Olawuyi, a three-term federal lawmaker from Kwara State, confirmed that four aspirants have so far submitted their nomination forms.

According to Voice of Nigeria, speaking after the committee’s inauguration at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, Mr. Olawuyi said their primary task is to verify all documents submitted by the aspirants to ensure that the party presents a credible and qualified candidate for the election. He highlighted the importance of their assignment, stating, ‘Our assignment is very simple: to check and verify documents submitted by aspirants and ensure the party fields a credible candidate. We don’t want a situation where irregularities are discovered by INEC after submission.’

Mr. Olawuyi dismissed speculations that any aspirant would receive special
treatment, assuring party members and the public that the screening process would strictly follow APC guidelines. ‘Nobody has given me any instructions outside the party’s guidelines. I have contested and won three elections, and I understand what screening entails. There will be no preferential treatment,’ he emphasised.

The screening exercise, initially slated to begin on Monday, was postponed due to the ongoing constitutional review public hearing in Abuja. It will now commence on Tuesday, 23rd September 2025, with two aspirants scheduled for screening on the first day and the remaining two on the following day.
