Ekiti State Government has taken a bold step aimed at repositioning the health sector in the 16 local government areas.
The Kayode Fayemi administration has inaugurated Local Government Health Authorities Advisory Committee to achieve a common goal of ensuring preventive health care services in the grassroots.
Performing the inauguration, the Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, reiterated government’s commitment to the transforming the health sector to better the welfare of the populace.
Egbeyemi said government would continue to ensure that health centres and hospitals are well equipped and provide incentives to health workers.
The inauguration of the Committee now brings all stakeholders in the Primary Healthcare sub-sector under one roof to ensure better coordination and service delivery.
The Deputy Governor disclosed that the state government is committing huge resources through counterpart funds with the federal government to make healthcare accessible to the rural dwellers.
Besides, Egbeyemi also explained that government is also working to ensure adequate manpower for primary health institutions in a bid to ensure a healthy population.
He said government recognises the fact that a healthy population would engender economic productivity and improve life expectancy.
Egbeyemi said: The management system of the Primary Health Care system is being repackaged for better performance.
Bringing them under one authority is aimed at improving service delivery and ensure better administration.
The Board Chairman of the Ekiti State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Mrs. Monisola Oloro, said the lauded the support of the Fayemi administration for its commitment and support for health care delivery system.
Mrs. Oloro stressed that the Local Government Health Authority is the governing body for coordination and supervision the LGA, Community and Facility levels.
She said: The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) introduced a process called Bringing PHC Under One Roof, to strengthen Primary Health Care services.
This is a policy for the integration of all Primary Health Care services under one authority of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPHCDA) to reduce fragmentation in management and service delivery.
In other words, the policy is intended to unite all Primary Health Care structures and programmes at State and Local Government levels to ensure effective management.
Representatives of National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPHCDA), World Health Organisation (WHO), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) delivered goodwill messages at the ceremony.
