The Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed says the sum of $7.5 billion is needed to complete infrastructure projects such as a massive dams and roads as part of efforts to boost industrialisation in his country.
Ahmed made the statement at the Ethiopia's parliament before its vote on the 2018/19 budget on Friday in Nairobi.
The Prime Minister emphasized the needed for government to be more efficient and prudent in its spending of public funds.
He said many state-owned enterprises were heavily indebted and that export earnings were a third of the $10 billion annual target.
The Prime Minister who took office in April 2018, pledged to focus on political and economic reforms.
