Former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Umar Abdullahi, has appealed to leaders in the country to imbibe the leadership qualities of the late Governor of defunct Northern Region, Gen. Hassan Katsina.
Abdullahi, made the appeal during a Maiden Public Lecture in honour of the late Hassan Katsina in Katsina on Sunday.
Abdullahi, who was the chairman of the public lecture, described Hassan Katsina as a fine soldier and good leader whose track records would continue to remain memorable in the minds of people.
According to him, Gen. Katsina was among the second generation leaders, after Independence, who consolidated on the achievements of the country’s founding fathers like Sardauna, Zik and Awolowo.
Chief Discussant at the occasion, the Waziri of Katsina, Prof. Sani- Lugga, said that Gen. Katsina left a legacy which the present leaders at all levels of governments in the country should emulate.
Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina state was represented by his Special Adviser on Higher Education, Dr. Bishir Ruwangodiya.
Masari stated that the role of the former elderstatesman and fine military officer during and after the civil war from 1967 to 1970 could not be emphasised.
Mr Muttaqa Rabe- Darma, former Executive Secretary of Petroleum Technogy Development Fund (PTDF) in a remark, said Gen. Katsina would always be remembered and celebrated in view of the huge contributions he made which touched the lives of the people positively in the society.
“This is because the late icon mentored and groomed many Nigerians who made valuable contributions towards nation building,” he said.
Malam Samaila Balarabe of the Department of Mass Communication, Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic Katsina (HUK), said that 27 years after Gen. Katsina’s death, his legacies were still being felt .
“He was one of the gallant Nigerian Army officers who fought during the civil war to keep Nigerian as one entity.
The News Agency of Nigera (NAN) reports that Gen. Katsina was born in 1933 and died in 1995.
Until his death, he was the Chiroman Katsina, and one of the elder statesmen in the country.
