Abeokuta:The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ogun Council has elected new executives to lead for the next three years. The inauguration took place at the chapel’s secretariat on Nawarudeen Road.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mrs. Yetunde Fatungase, a Senior Editor and Ogun Correspondent for the agency, was elected as the first female chairman of the chapel. The other newly elected executives include Adegbenro Oladele as Secretary, Bankole Taiwo as Vice-Chairman, Gift Oba as Treasurer, Lauretta Fagbohun as Financial Secretary, and Olayinka Kolawole as Assistant Secretary.
Mr. Wale Olanrewaju, Chairman of NUJ, Ogun Council, congratulated the new executives and highlighted the need for unity among chapel members. He emphasized the importance of enhancing members’ welfare and maintaining regular payment of check-off dues. Olanrewaju also stressed the role of cooperation and collective responsibility in strengthening the chapel and advocating for journalists’ interests.
In her acceptance speech, Fatungase expressed her gratitude for the trust placed in her by members and committed to leading with fairness, transparency, humility, and respect. She acknowledged existing challenges within the chapel and assured that genuine grievances would be addressed constructively.
Fatungase encouraged members to engage in peaceful dialogue and understanding, promoting open communication and inclusive decision-making. She stressed the value of support, cooperation, and constructive criticism, urging members to prioritize professionalism, integrity, and service to society. Fatungase concluded by affirming that the association’s strength lies in the collective commitment of its members and called for unity to advance the chapel’s goals.
