Post: FCT Minister Wike Highlights Abuja’s Role in National Unity and Growth

Abuja:The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has emphasized Abuja’s significance as a symbol of unity and a catalyst for national growth in Nigeria. In his message marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary, Wike highlighted the strategic role of Abuja in bridging the country’s diverse ethnic, religious, and geographical divisions.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Wike described the FCT as not only the seat of government but also the primary engine for national cohesion and economic stability. He reflected on Abuja’s irreplaceable role in uniting Nigeria’s multi-ethnic population, noting that it stands as a testament to the nation’s unity where people from various backgrounds coexist peacefully.

As Nigeria progresses into its 67th year of statehood, Wike stated that the FCT will continue to serve as a blueprint for peace and progress. He outlined the FCT Administration’s ongoing transformation efforts under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which aim to set a benchmark for governance aligned with the 2026 Independence anniversary theme, ‘From Reforms to Stability: Consolidating Nigeria’s Renewed Hope for Shared Prosperity’.

The minister also mentioned the development strategy focused on bridging the rural-urban divide with expanded infrastructure and inclusive development. This includes comprehensive road overhauls and the construction of ultramodern bus terminals to improve connectivity and safety, with plans to expand these facilities across additional area councils.

On human capital development, Wike reported investments in primary healthcare and educational facilities to ensure the integration of vulnerable populations into the growing economy. The administration is also enhancing security measures through community policing and technology to safeguard national assets and ensure safety for residents and visitors.

Looking forward to the January 2027 general elections, Wike urged residents to engage in civic participation to consolidate infrastructural gains and called for the protection of public property to maintain Abuja’s reputation as a model for the continent.
