Abuja: Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has sought partnership with Finland on waste management, agriculture, and infrastructural development in the FCT. Wike made the appeal when Finland’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Sanna Selin, visited him in Abuja on Tuesday. The Minister expressed gratitude for the visit, emphasizing the opportunity to expand bilateral relations. He highlighted Finland’s positive relationship with Nigeria and committed to optimizing this for mutual benefits.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Minister expressed the FCT Administration’s readiness to cooperate with other countries, particularly in infrastructure and agriculture. Wike appreciated the ambassador’s pledge to support ongoing infrastructural development in the FCT and encouraged consideration of waste management collaboration. He emphasized the importance of engaging with firms capable of managing waste and expressed interest in exploring Finnish projects that could benefit mutual development.
The Minister assured improved security in the FCT, noting ongoing efforts were yielding results. He remarked on the city’s growth and the enhanced security situation, alongside extensive construction aimed at improving residents’ lives.
Earlier, Ambassador Selin noted the deepening relationship between the nations, highlighting Finland’s priorities in boosting trade and supporting Nigeria’s digital transformation. She mentioned Finland’s recent Memorandum of Understanding with Nigeria on digitalization and innovation. Selin emphasized Finland’s advancements in water and waste management technologies and circular economy solutions, proposing that expertise from Finland’s capital region could be mirrored in the FCT through bilateral projects, enhancing economic and technical cooperation.
