FCTA begins biometric capturing for retirees

The Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, in Nigeria has begun biometrics data capturing of retirees across the six Area Councils of the FCT and teachers.

The exercise, which began on Tuesday, will take place simultaneously in the six Area Councils for three days.

Speaking in an interview with Journalists in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, at the commencement of the exercise, the Director of the FCT Area Council Staff Pension Board, Dr Nanzing Nden, said the exercise was meant to capture pensioners under the defined benefit scheme and to update their data.

He said, “It is a routine exercise for the retirees of the area councils and teachers. It is to ensure sanity of purpose and that no deceased pensioners receive pension.”

Dr. Nden added that one thousand two hundred and forty (1,240) retirees were on the payroll from the 1,250 captured in the last exercise.

According to the Director, “It means we have lost 10 retirees in the last one year”.
