Post: FCTA Completes Police Headquarters in Ushafa and Saburi

Abuja:The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has finalized the construction of modern Divisional Police Headquarters and residential quarters in Ushafa and Saburi, located in the Bwari and Abuja Municipal Area Councils, respectively.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Director of the Security Services Department at FCTA, Mr. Adamu Gwary, announced the completion as a significant measure to combat crime in Abuja’s satellite towns. During a site visit on Wednesday, Gwary confirmed the projects are fully completed and ready for handover, with 10 other projects nearing completion across the area councils.

Gwary explained that these facilities are part of a larger initiative to build 12 divisional police headquarters, two in each area council, to address security concerns in the region. He noted that the ongoing projects are over 90 percent complete, following a directive from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to conclude all work by the end of November.

The newly constructed headquarters include a fully equipped ground floor with a central counter, detention facilities, and separate cells for male and female suspects. The upper floor houses eight administrative offices, including one for the Divisional Police Officer. Additionally, the complex features a three-story residential block with fully furnished two-bedroom flats for officers.

A technical team from the Federal Capital Development Authority’s Public Building Department will verify the specifications before the official handover. Mr. Gwary recalled that Minister Wike had earlier promised to decentralize security infrastructure during town hall meetings amid security challenges in 2023.

The Ushafa station, along with another at Igbu near the FCT-Nasarawa border, aims to secure satellite communities and strengthen the territory’s external borders against criminal activities. With the deadline approaching, FCTA is hopeful the new infrastructure will allow residents to live without fear of crime.
