Abuja: The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) under the leadership of Minister Nyesom Wike is set to launch the Project Breathe Clean Air Abuja on Saturday, November 15, 2025. This initiative aims to promote the use of clean cooking gas (LPG) as an alternative to traditional firewood and charcoal, offering a safer and healthier option for residents.
According to Voice of Nigeria, the event will be held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, under the theme ‘Renewing Hope, One Household at a Time.’ Supported by IHS Nigeria, the launch is expected to bring together a wide range of participants including environmental and health experts, students, development partners, and policy makers to discuss and support the project’s objectives.
The primary aim of the initiative is to mitigate health risks associated with household air pollution, protect the environment, and encourage sustainable living practices in Abuja. The Mandate Secretary, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, emphasized that
the project is strategically designed to enhance public health and promote environmental sustainability. She expressed gratitude to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for his support and to IHS Nigeria for their commitment to the initiative.
As part of the six-month programme, 5,000 gas cylinders will be distributed across the six area councils of the FCT. This distribution is intended to encourage households to transition from using firewood and charcoal to adopting clean cooking gas solutions.
