Post: Federal Government Urges Expansion of L-PRES Impact Across Livestock Communities

Yola:The Federal Government has encouraged the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) to enhance its implementation and extend its benefits to more livestock farmers and communities. The Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha, made this announcement while inaugurating the FGN/World Bank L-PRES Implementation Support Mission, which is scheduled to take place from October 5 to October 10.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Maiha praised the project for its progress and impact in the participating states. He highlighted that L-PRES has become a crucial component of the government’s efforts to transform Nigeria’s livestock sector, with notable interventions already in place. Maiha emphasized the need to build on these successes by strengthening implementation to ensure that benefits reach a broader range of livestock farmers and communities.

Dr. Manievel Sene, World Bank Task Team Leader for L-PRES, stated that the mission focuses on socialisation, orientation, learning, and updating progress on project implementation. Sene remarked that the mission offers a platform to review implementation, share experiences, address challenges, and agree on practical steps to improve project delivery.

In his welcome address, Dr. Sanusi Abubakar, the National Project Coordinator of L-PRES, noted that the mission is occurring at a critical stage of the project’s implementation. L-PRES is reported to be making progress in key areas of the livestock value chain, such as animal health services, infrastructure, water provision, pasture and feed development, production systems, and market access. Abubakar stressed the importance of maintaining quality and improving implementation as more states express interest in the project.

Abubakar also expressed appreciation for the minister’s leadership and support, as well as for the collaboration and commitment from the World Bank, federal institutions, participating state governments, and project teams. The six-day mission will include technical sessions, progress reviews, and discussions aimed at resolving implementation challenges, improving coordination, and accelerating delivery across participating states.
