Abeokuta:The Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has commenced maintenance work on the Isaga-Abeokuta-Igboora Road in the Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the Federal Road Maintenance Engineer for Ogun, Mr. Mustapha Yakubu, stated that the project aims to improve road safety, enhance visibility, and extend the infrastructure’s lifespan. The maintenance includes vegetation control, desilting, and pothole patching, with the approval granted by FERMA’s Managing Director, Mr. Chukwuemeka Agbasi.
Yakubu emphasized that removing vegetation will enhance visibility and address security concerns by eliminating potential hideouts for criminal activities. The project also involves engaging 50 youths from local communities as part of a youth empowerment initiative.
Community leader Chief Adeniji Adeniyi praised the government’s efforts, highlighting the road’s poor condition as a cause of frequent accidents. Leke Nuga, a trader, noted that clearing roadside bushes would mitigate security risks for those working late hours. Commercial driver Mr. Jimoh Aboyade expressed optimism that the repairs would alleviate vehicle damage and reduce the challenges faced by motorists traveling toward Iseyin.
