Koton-karfe: The Federal Government, through the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), has announced the expenditure of N1.48 billion on the rehabilitation of the Government Science Secondary School in Koton-Karfe, Kogi State. This project, facilitated by Senator Sunday Karimi (APC-Kogi) as a part of his constituency initiatives, aims to enhance the educational infrastructure in the region.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Dr Iyela Ajayi, Executive Secretary of NSSEC, disclosed this information during the handover ceremony of the school, which is one of 50 selected senior secondary schools across the country for rehabilitation. Represented by Mr Olugbenga Adelogun, the Director of Human Resources at the commission, Ajayi emphasized that this initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to transform education in the nation.
Ajayi praised Senator Karimi for his role in facilitating the project, highlighting the significant impact elected representatives can have in supporting government efforts. He reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to improving senior secondary education through various interventions, including infrastructure development, teacher training, digital learning, and school safety.
Emmanuel Egamana, the supervising consultant and Acting Head of the Physical Planning and Development Department at NSSEC, provided details about the construction work. The project, awarded to Messrs First Man Industry Link Ltd., included a three-block construction with a completion period of 24 weeks. The administrative block features seven offices, while the classroom block consists of six classrooms, each accommodating 46 students. Additionally, the laboratory and ICT building houses four laboratories and four ICT labs, each with a capacity for 48 students.
The facilitator of the project, Senator Karimi, represented by Commodore Folusho Daniel (rtd.), underscored the importance of such educational interventions. He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for fostering an environment conducive to educational development and noted that this project is part of broader initiatives in Kogi West, which include improvements in water, electricity, and solar infrastructure.
Dr Habiba Suleiman, Chairman of the Kogi State Senior Secondary Education Board, lauded the Federal Government for the project’s execution and called for more such developments across the state. The school’s Principal, Inusa Dauda, pledged to utilize the new facilities effectively to enhance teaching and learning while appealing for additional security measures, such as perimeter fencing, to address existing security challenges.
