Abuja: The Federal Government has identified patriotism as a key pillar to rebuilding Nigeria’s moral fabric and the attainment of national reorientation values. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, emphasized this in Abuja during a courtesy visit by Mr. Abdullahi Omaki, founder of the Community Peace Initiatives Network (CPIN).
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the minister highlighted the government’s commitment to promoting national unity and core values, urging Nigerians to work together for a peaceful and prosperous country. He praised CPIN’s alignment with the government’s vision and its initiatives to institutionalize peacebuilding and dialogue. Idris underscored the importance of patriotism, mentorship, and value orientation in rebuilding the nation’s moral and social fabric and mentioned the role of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in fostering unity.
The minister also announced the forthcoming inauguration of Nigeria’s Values Charter, aimed at bolstering citizens’ commitment to ethical conduct and national development. Speaking on the occasion, Omaki, a former Executive Director of the Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, informed about the formation of the National Peace and Harmony Council (NPHC). He stated that the council aims to collaborate with youth groups to address gaps in national unity at the grassroots level.
Omaki stressed the importance of partnerships between the government, civil society, and the private sector to tackle issues like corruption, ethnic biases, and religious intolerance. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
