Firefighters’ Day: Nigeria Fire Service honours officers

As the World marks International Firefighters’ Day, Nigeria Fire Service has honoured its officers who devote their lives to the service of others and humanity.

The Service stated this via its official Twitter handle @Fedfireng on Monday.

“Today’s is International Firefighters day. Today we take time out to honour the men and women who devote their lives to the service of others and humanity. Happy International Firefighters day to all our gallant Fire Officers”.

“Not all heroes wear capes and you are one of such heroes. Today, we say “when we are called to duty Lord, wherever flames may rage, give us the strength to save a life, whatever be the age. If I’m to lose my life, Please bless with your protective hands, my children and my wife.”

International Firefighters’ Day is observed on May 4. It was instituted after a proposal was emailed out across the world on January 4, 1999 due to the deaths of five firefighters in tragic circumstances in a bushfire in Australia.
