Mr Peters Chioke, Executive Vice Chairman, North South Power Company, has solicited the support of the media in sensitising Shiroro communities on activities that may lead to flooding in the area.
He spoke at a stakeholders awareness forum on flood held in Shiroro, Niger State.
He said that residents should take precautionary measures to avert flood, in view of current hydrological trend on Kaduna River Basin, so as to minimise damage and suffering.
The official said residents must desist from building and farming on water ways, as well as dumping refuse in drainage, so as to provide good access for water to prevent flooding, safeguard farms and homes from destruction.
Chioke who was represented by Alhaji Hassan Abdullahi, Chief Operation Officer of the company, assured the community that the firm would provide them with basic infrastructure as part of its corporate social responsibilities.
He disclosed that the company had drilled boreholes in Lambu, Dnado, Eddah, Awaha, Gbegbetuko, Zhiwi, Kadna and Gudi villages.
The official urged the residents to be peaceful and support efforts of the company to provide them with social amenities that would better their lives.
