Abuja: Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has joined the global community in celebrating the girl child. In her message marking the occasion, which is observed worldwide every October 11, Mrs. Tinubu emphasized the importance of valuing all female children by both parents and society.
According to Voice of Nigeria, Mrs. Tinubu highlighted the theme of the year, “The Girl I am, The Change I lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis,” underscoring the daily challenges faced by girls. She acknowledged the struggles of girls striving for education, walking long distances for basic needs like water, or enduring the hardships of displacement, affirming that they are seen, heard, and valued. The First Lady expressed that their courage is a beacon for a brighter future.
Mrs. Tinubu also used the opportunity to call for increased support for girls, advocating for efforts to help them achieve their maximum potential. She concluded her message with a rallying cry for collective action, wishing everyone a happy International Day of the Girl Child 2025.
