France 2019: Super Falcons sweep away Koreans 2-0

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have rekindled hopes of advancing to the next round of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, beating Korea Republic 2-0 in Grenoble on Wednesday.

Having withstood a barage of Korean attacks, the Nigerian side took the lead in the 29th minute after Korean defender D Y Kim put the ball past her own net following a long-raking pass.

The Koreans continued to hit the Nigerian goal area like a battering ram; but defenders Ebi Onome and Ohale along with new goal keeper Nnadozie kept them at bay throughout the second half.

The Falcons put the game beyond doubt after a swift counter-attack released goal queen Asisat Osoala who rounded the keeper to slot home from the tightest of angles in the 75th minute.

The win gives Nigeria three points a respite from the horror show against Norway on Saturday.

The Falcons will face hosts France in their last group game to find out if they remain in the competition or head back to Abuja.
