Ilorin:More than 700 residents of the Ilorin Emirate in Kwara have received free medical services through an outreach organized by UK-based Nigerian, Dr. Muideen Onimago.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the event offered a range of services including medical check-ups, laboratory tests, eye care services, and the distribution of glasses and medications. Dr. Ola Ahmed, the outreach coordinator, emphasized the initiative’s goal of enhancing healthcare access for underserved populations and promoting early disease detection.
Beneficiaries underwent screenings for various conditions such as blood pressure, blood sugar, malaria, and eye defects. Dr. Ahmed highlighted that the outreach aimed to fill the gap for those unable to afford basic medical tests and services. Medications were provided based on prescriptions, and glasses were distributed to individuals with vision issues.
Ahmed noted that cases needing further medical attention were referred to appropriate health facilities. He praised Dr. Onimago for his generosity and encouraged other diaspora Nigerians to contribute similarly. Patients requiring surgery were identified for further treatment at suitable facilities.
Common ailments detected included hypertension, diabetes, respiratory infections, and malaria. The Shettima of Ilorin Emirate, Alhaji Sakariyau Onimago, lauded the organizer’s philanthropic efforts, emphasizing his continued connection to his Nigerian heritage.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the outreach. Alhaji Abdullahi Abdulsalam appreciated the financial relief provided by the intervention, especially in light of economic difficulties. Mrs. Hajaratu Yakubu, a resident of Eruda community, also expressed thanks for the free eye care and medication, commending the outreach’s humanitarian impact.
