FRSC Implements 24-Hour Licence Production to Address Backlog in South-West

Lagos: The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has initiated a continuous 24-hour printing operation at its Lagos Mini Print Farm to expedite the production of driver’s licences and eliminate backlogs in the South-West region. This development was revealed during a facility monitoring tour by the FRSC Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, represented by Deputy Corps Commander (DCC) Olawale Kareem, who oversees the Lagos Mini Print Farm.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the FRSC has produced nearly 100,000 driver’s licences since the inception of full-scale operations in Lagos. The increase in production is attributed to the deployment of advanced heavy-duty printing machines capable of processing a licence card in under 20 seconds. The operation that began on October 8 has resulted in over 65,000 licences for Lagos State and more than 20,000 for other states in the South-West, totaling between 90,000 and 100,000 licences produced.

The FRSC Corps Marshal emphasized the extended working hours, with staff now operating round-the-clock to ensure all backlogs are cleared by the second week of November. The usual operating hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. have been extended to 24-hour shifts to meet these production targets.

While the Lagos Mini Print Farm focuses on production, the distribution and collection of printed licences are managed by state agencies. The FRSC produces and indexes each card with a unique code, which is then sent to state agencies for applicant notification and distribution.

The centre’s stable network operations are supported by a dual connectivity system involving fibre and radio link service providers, ensuring uninterrupted production.

Applicants at the Lagos Drivers Licence Centre have commended the improved process and organisation. Mrs. Mopelola Onafeko praised the smooth and well-organised process, while Mr. Kelvin Peters noted a seamless experience compared to previous renewals, with minor issues like light or network failures being absent.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the FRSC has intensified efforts to clear the backlog of unprinted and uncollected driver’s licences nationwide, aligning with the Corps Marshal’s directive to enhance service delivery through digital innovation and efficiency.
