Abuja: The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced the launch of a new contactless biometric system aimed at revolutionizing the process of obtaining driver’s licences in Nigeria. The initiative, which includes on-the-spot printing, is part of FRSC’s efforts to fully digitalize its licensing system.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, FRSC Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, elaborated on this development during a news briefing held to kick off the 2025 ember months public enlightenment and sensitization campaign in Abuja. Mohammed stated that the new system would eliminate the need for temporary licences and significantly reduce the delays and challenges previously associated with obtaining a national driver’s licence.
Mohammed explained that this innovation would introduce a one-stop-shop digital process for driver’s licences in the country. He emphasized that the FRSC is committed to leveraging technology to improve service delivery and operational efficiency. The initiative is expected to enhance transparency, accountability, and ease of access for Nigerians seeking legitimate driver’s licences.
The FRSC Corps Marshal credited government support, particularly from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), as being instrumental in the corps’ achievements. He expressed gratitude for the advisory oversight and encouragement provided by the Federal Government.
Mohammed urged Nigerians to continue supporting the FRSC in its mission to create a safer motoring environment throughout the country. The event concluded with a live demonstration of the new licensing process to journalists.
