Post: Fubara Announces Defection to APC Amidst PDP Division

Port harcourt: Gov. Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers has announced his defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Fubara, who initially secured his position as governor through the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), revealed his decision during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the defection comes on the heels of a recent shift by no fewer than 15 members of the state’s House of Assembly to the APC. These lawmakers, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, attributed their decision to ongoing divisions within the PDP.

In response to the wave of defections, Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, commented on the situation, linking it to the ‘deepening internal crisis in the PDP.’ Wike noted that the defections are indicative of the factionalisation present within the party, emphasizing that those who chose to leave are exercising their rights.
