Kontagora: Maj.-Gen. John Olusegun-Adeyemo has assumed duty as the 50th Commander of the Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery (NACA). The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the handing over ceremony took place at the corps headquarters in Kontagora, Niger State.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the outgoing Commander of NACA, Maj.-Gen. Zakari Abubakar, retired from active service after a distinguished military career, handing over to Olusegun-Adeyemo. In his valedictory remarks, Abubakar expressed gratitude for a successful career and thanked the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, for the opportunity to serve as commander of the corps.
Abubakar commended the officers, soldiers, and civilian staff of the corps for their loyalty and cooperation, which he said contributed to the successes during his tenure. He encouraged personnel to extend the same support to his successor, emphasizing that collective effort was essential to sustain the corps’ achievements.
In his maiden address, Adeyemo expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, for the confidence shown in him through the appointment. He lauded the contributions of his predecessor and pledged to build on the gains achieved to enhance the corps’ professional capacity within Nigeria’s evolving security environment.
Adeyemo urged officers and soldiers to remain disciplined, loyal, and professional in performing their duties. Highlights of the ceremony included the signing of handing and taking over notes, decoration of the new commander with insignia, symbolic presentations of the command flag, and tree planting by both outgoing and incoming commanders.
