German Cultural Institute donates books to VON library

The German Cultural Institute in Lagos, the Goethe-Institut Nigeria, has donated 28 books to the Voice of Nigeria Library.

The books include Historical, Arts, Novels for Adults and Teenagers, Dictionary, Travel and Culture, Science and Technology, Communication in Business books.

The donation to the Library was done by the Head of Information and Library of the Institut, Ms. Katja Kellerer during a visit to the Centre by some staff of the Training Department of Voice of Nigeria, Lagos.

Ms. Kellerer pledged her organisation’s support to the department and Library in every way possible. She also suggested other partners and ways of collaboration to the visiting team.

Technical Support

The visit according to the Deputy Director Training, Lagos, Mrs Ugonma Cokey is part of efforts by the department to forge partnership with relevant organisations to help it restructure its library, restock and upgrade it to an e-library to make it more functional and accessible to both staff and media professionals.

Mrs Cokey said the meeting was also to garner technical support for its new Training Department.

The delegation led by Ugonma Cokey had Sunday Oyeleke, Assistant Chief Training Officer and Kate Abido, Principal Training officer in its team.

The donation of books is the second this year, In January, a Media NGO, Media Career Development Network donated books and resource material to the VON library during a courtesy visit to VON to seek partnership with the new Training Department.

The Training Department was created last year by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation as part of plan to strengthen efficiency and professionalism among its staff and the media public.

The Library was handed over to the Training department in November last year.
