Amawbia (Awka South LGA)Rev. Fr. Valentine Ofomata, Parish Priest, St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Amawbia says God does not condemn ambition and industry as they are created by Him to assist man.

Ofomata noted that it was only when one made effort that God would bless him/her, saying that He could not bless one in a vacuum.

God does not encourage laziness. A child who slumbers during harvest is a disgrace; if you don’t work, you don’t eat,” Ofomata said this during Thanksgiving Mass for late Barbara Amaechi at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Amawbia.

Late Mrs Amaechi, daughter of Chief Victor Oye, National Chairman, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

The cleric urged all to love God above material things, detach from them and better lives of others with them.

How have you touched people’s lives with your wealth; do corporal works of mercy with your riches.

Barbara was busy storing her wealth in heaven by loving the needy and the less privileged.

Prof. Dora Akunyili did great things to humanity with her political career and God decided to use her to teach us the vanity of life. Why not do good, now knowing full well that life is short.”

Mrs Sally Mbanefo, Anambra Commissioner for Tourism, Local Art works, Culture and Diaspora, enjoined all to have sense of urgency for God’s work as one might not live up to 100.

The commissioner noted that Barbara was prepared, because God gave her everything and she used them to serve Him.

Barbara knew that her journey on earth was coming to an end and that was why she made hare while the sun was shining’.

Her death taught all not to joke with time, get prepared always for the bridegroom might come at the eleventh hour.”

I stayed the whole day with APGA chairman because he is as a good Catholic and I want to show solidarity.

I feel that I should be there for him not only as a political colleague but because I know the power of prayers for the dead.”

She urged all to embrace charity as it was a sure way to make heaven.
