Gombe commends Nigerian Army for restoring peace in North East

The Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has commended the Nigerian Army for the restoration of peace in the North East and the country as a whole.

Governor Yahaya made the commendation in his office, when the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, visited him in Gombe, during his operational tour of Army units and formations in the North East.

The Gombe State Governor said he considered the relations between the state and the Nigerian Army as symbiotic one, hence the willingness of the state to provide the land for the establishment of a barrack for the Army.

“For the Nigerian Army, we thank you very much for all that you have been doing. And for the support we get in terms of giving the land for you to put up the barracks is not enough, but not for the scarcity and paucity of resources, I think the state would have done far better, by contributing for you to have a befitting barracks so that you deploy more personnel in order to manage our security. The relationship is complementary. As we do to you, I believe you will do to us. And without security, nothing will go well, as far as development is concerned, So, we will continue to have that symbiotic relationship,” said Governor Yahaya.

He promised that the Gombe State Government would continue to give the necessary support for the Nigerian Army to succeed in its purpose and objectives, while assuring the Nigerian Army University in Biu, Borno State that the Gombe State Government would give it the needed support, because Gombe people were drawing direct benefit from it, due to its proximity to the state.

The Chief of Army Staff said his visit to the Army Units and Formations, especially those under Operation Lafiya Dole in the North East, was a routine operational visit to ensure that troops in the operations were well prepared to carry out their constitutional responsibilities.

He said he was equally touring the zone, after he carried out a similar visit to the North West, in order to inspect some projects of the army.

Lieutenant General Buratai commended the people and government of Gombe State for the security efforts in the North East and by standing with the security agencies to ensure the maintenance of security, which was due to the cooperation of the people.

“I want to assure you that the security situation will continue to improve until we get rid of the criminals once and for all,” Lieutenant General Buratai said.

The Chief of Army Staff was also grateful to the Gombe State Government for the provision of land to build a befitting barracks, because the location of the current barracks was not suitable for providing security, due to its location in the midst of a large population.

He said work had already commenced on the new and permanent site, with the hope that in no distant time from now, the army would relocate to the place.

“It is more befitting, more spacious. So, I am here your Excellency to say thank you for all the support you have given to the officers and men of the Nigeria Army. Ad we want to assure you that on our part, we will continue to provide the needed security and work with other security agencies in this beautiful state,” Lieutenant General Buratai said.

The Chief of Staff however solicited for further support from the Gombe State Government for the new barracks, pleading for the continued support of the state government for the Nigerian Army University in Biu, Borno State, where some Gombe indigenes were either students or staff there.
