The Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya has inspected the uncompleted Mega Motor Park and resolved to resume work at the park by taking all necessary actions to ensure that the project is completed.
Governor Yahaya, showed his displeasure that the level of construction of the structure is at 46% completion after eight years.
He said his visit to the site was to inspect things for himself, because there were previous complaints from the Federal College of Education, Technical, that gullies that had developed in the premises of the facility, was having serious effect on the structure.
According to the Governor, ”the gullies have caused a diversion, which should have been avoided with an environment assessment, before the construction work had begun.”
Governor Yahaya said the project begun since 2012 and would have been completed at the sum of N6.2b, but that N2.8b had been used for what was on ground at the moment, while present records showed certified works gulped N420m, which were yet to be paid.
“So, over 3 billion Naira is wasted, unutilised and has caused havoc to the environment. So, you hold whoever has decided to put up this structure responsible for whatever happens to us. Until something is done and urgently, it means there will be a double jeopardy for Gombe. We will not have this place and we may not have college of education,” Governor Yahaya said.
He directed that the contractor and the consultants of the Gombe Mega Park be summoned, while being guided by all professional development and control; update the government for the correct thing to be done for the structure to be completed.
Governor Yahaya said it would not take more than one year for the project to be completed once the government starts work, to exhibit his administration’s seriousness and commitment.
